Sky turns 21....months that is!

So Sky turned twenty-one months old today. She's getting to be such a big girl. She's remarkably independent for age.

At play...she is just as comfortable playing with other kids as she is playing by herself. She's willing to share her toys and knows how to be nice enough to another kid to get them to share their toys. She has two playmates Sophia and Christian whom she plays with a couple of times a week.

At the dinner table...she's very coordinated using the spoon and fork. Don't even try to help her put a bite into her mouth she will resist. It's as if she gets offended if you try to feed her.

At bed time...she asks me to read four or five books while sitting on my lap in our rocking chair. When we finish with the books, she puts the books away and climbs back on my lap only this time she's turned over and she puts her head on my shoulder. We rock for about five minutes as she slowly melts into my arms. Finally to test if she's asleep yet, I whisper to her "are you my baby girl" and if she's awake she whispers back "yes; Aiden baby boy" . Five minutes later I whisper again "can I put you in your bed" and she whispers back "yeah". I put her down in her crib and she lays on her stomach with her rear end up and she goes to sleep.

She still loves to sing. Here are some of the songs she signs these days: (1) bah bah black sheep (2) Nana Beth's "birdy" song (3) ring around the rosey (4) twinkle twinkle little star (5) row row row your boat (6) alphabet song (7) old mcdonald (8) itsey bitsey spider...and that's all I can think of right now. She sings so sweetly, my Dad always says "Sky has a beautiful voice. She's going to be a singer".

I'm going to try to video record her singing one of these days 'cause you just have to hear her say "kwankle, kwankle, little star".

Now that she's more vocal, she enjoys playing with Aiden even more. It's so nice when the two of them sit at their table and draw or paint together. Every now and then you hear them say something and both of them crack up laughing. Hearing them interact and laugh together as if they have inside jokes is so cool.

She's very active. The kid never ever sits still unless we're reading to her. At The Little Gym the instructor uses Sky for demonstrations because she's willing to try new moves. She can do a somersault completely independently. She has excellent balance on the balance beam.

At home, she enjoys building houses out of the couch cushions with her brother. It always starts out as "we're building a house with the couch cushions" but always ends up becoming some acrobatic maze that takes over the entire family room.

She likes to chase her brother around the house. They run from the kitchen to the family room then to the front door and around the dining room and back to the kitchen. Aiden yells "super fast" as he takes the lead and Sky follows with "supa fast". They always end up in the family room floor laughing and falling all over each other.

She loves the outdoors. She's always clamoring to go outside. She likes to walk all around our yard and identify different types of poop. Yup, I said "poop". In our backyard she's identified deer poop, fox poop, giraffe poop, and elephant poop. Sometimes we call her the "poop girl".

She has a ceramic frog in the flower bed that she likes to check on when she's outside. She even blows the frog a kisses and pats it's head.

She likes to play in the creek with her brother. They throw rocks and pretend they're fishing by poking a stick in the water.

  1. Everyone keeps asking what's on edges of her mouth in the pictures above. It's M&Ms. She got two M&Ms for using the potty right before I took the pictures. It's amazing how much chocolate a toddler can get on their hands and face just from two little M&Ms.

  2. Dear Sky,

You got to spend your 21-month-old birthday here with us in Blue Ridge. Everything your Mommy says about you is true and then some.

You have wonderful reasoning and are such a quick study. When we took the Blue Ridge Parkway to get pizza your Daddy explained that stalagtites grew down from the parkway tunnels as we drove under a tunnel. When we got off the parkway in Vinton you pointed to another tunnel we were about to go under. You pointed up and said, "See tunnel, look up lites." You smartie you!

I can't image how much smarter you'll be when you are TWO!!!

I also love that your favorite book is "Stinky Face." When I found it and read it I knew it would tickle YOU! And it did.

    I LOVE YOU Stinky Face!

    xxxooo Nana Beth
