Nana Beth's blue money

Dear Sky,

I am here babysitting for you in Oakton while Mommy has traveled to Africa for a ten-day Safari with \ Molly. You are almost two-years-old and Mommy has planned everything so well you are having a good time. Theresa takes care of you from 7 AM until 2:45 PM. I’m with you from 2:45 for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Miss Theresa loves you and you go to the little gym, to the library, to a playgroup and then you come home and help her around the house. You chatter away and she engages you in conversation all the time. No wonder you have such an awesome vocabulary and you are sooooooo smart.

Today you came up to me and asked why I had blue money. I wasn’t sure what you meant so I asked you to repeat it. Again you asked, “Why you have blue money?”

I told you I didn’t have blue money.

You pointed to my ears. I had three blue disks, the size of nickels, cascading from my lobes. You were right; they sure looked like money. I took them off and let you inspect them.

You tried to put them in your ear. I showed you the hole I had pierce in my lobe and explained that you didn’t have one.

“When I get a hole?”

“When Mommy says you are older?”

“After my birthday?”

How DO you think! I wasn’t going to be tricked; you have a birthday coming up soon. “Maybe when you are as old as Meghan,” I said.

You thought for a moment and that seemed to suffice. “Your money pretty Nana Beth, put back in ear.”
