aiden at first day of tae kwan do

sky's dentist appointment

Yup, she had her first "real" dentist appointment today. She had her teeth cleaned and examined. I'm proud to say her exam went very well.

Just like Aiden, she didn't complain one bit during the cleaning or the exam. She was relieved when the cleaning was over. The hygienist gave her a Dora sticker, a scratch and sniff sticker and a bracelet right after the cleaning but before the dentist's exam. When the dentist asked to look in her mouth she said "no, doctor! i already finished".

She was very excited about her prizes.

Here she is standing outside her dentist's office proudly showing off her prizes.

back to school night

Adam and I met with Aiden's new teachers , Ms. Pooja and Ms. Celeste. We got more insight into the class curriculum, rules, schedule, etc. I loved hearing his teachers go on and on about how he's a "good listener", "gets along with all the kids", "loves reading time", and "does well on the computer" and the big surprise "he loves playing outside".

The drawing above was in the class art display case.... : ) He think he's handsome too.

first week of junior kindergarten

Aiden is feeling very good about being promoted to "junior kindergarten". He diligently dressed himself this morning...and check out that outfit! He finished his breakfast eager to go to school.

labor day weekend - in the water

Having a blast playing in the water...

No longer worried about the waves knocking him over

Looking back for the next "giant wave"

Next summer he'll be gliding past everyone on his skim board

True happiness...can be found on the beach.

Sky's turn to go into the water while his brother cheers her on.

Following in his daddy's footsteps

This one is a little difficult to explain...that's masking tape he's wearing over his eyes. Basically he thought it looked like something a superhero would have on their face so

Ahhh....Labor Day at the beach....the tourists are gone, the scotching heat and humidity is behind us, the beach is clean, and the kids are totally comfortable playing on the beach for hours at a time.

Little Sky...slightly feverish, achy and tired due to chicken pox. Despite not feeling well, she got in the water, played in the sand and chased her brother around. After an hour or two I took her inside, gave her a bath, powedered her up, put on comfy PJ's, gave her a cup of warm milk in her favorite Dora the Explorer sippy cup, and a dose of Children's Tylenol. We then read a few books, cuddled, and napped the afternoon away like lazy cats. We woke up to Aiden and Daddy making dinner for us. Life is good.

the crab feast

Aiden's new appendage

It's really hard to enforce the no-playing-with-your-food rule in a crab feast.

We had too much fun eating. I had no idea that Aiden would be so into crab meat.

Sky is noticeably absent because she was feeling a little under the weather with the Chicken Pox.

Me: Sky's got the chicken pox.

Sky: Why you say that?

Me: Say what?

Sky: I'm not a chicken box!

The crab feast brought out the kid in all of us...including Natalie.

It's easy to bring out the kid in Uncle Dullah.

bat-girl sky

I sent Sky to "time-out" for hitting her brother. This was our conversation when time-out was over:

Sky: Mommy, you mad?

Me: No, I'm not mad. Did you say you're sorry to your brother?

Sky: No, I just did time-out.

Me: Well, you need to say your sorry and then I'll be happy.

Sky: Your turned mad, then you turn happy again?

Me: Yes, it would make me very happy if you go over tell your brother you're sorry for hitting him.

Sky: But mommmmmy, I already had time-out.

Me: You still need to say you're sorry to your brother.

Sky: Then that's it?

Me: Yes, that's it.

Sky: Then you turn happy again?

Me: Yes, that will make me happy again.

Sky's going through a little phase...she loves to wear her brother's shirts. While in the morning she happily puts on her own shirts/outfits but when she wakes up from her afternoon nap, she's all about wearing one of Aiden's shirts.

I don't mind. She looks cute in whatever she wears. I just think it's funny.

Aiden does not mind his sister raiding his closet. But then this "phase" could be for the next twenty years and I bet a some point he'll mind.

Not sure what she's doing here but she sure looks cute.

popsicles!

Nothing beats a popsicle after a long, lazy, Sunday afternoon nap.

I wonder sometimes what memories will stick with Aiden and Sky as they grow older. For me, I seem to remember the simple things like warming up outside after afternoon nap in a AC-cooled bedroom. I remember the scent of Flinstone's Fruity Pebbles cereal on Saturday mornings while watching cartoons. I remember drinking milk and eating Little Debbie snack cakes while sitting on my neighbors front steps. I remember laughing so hard at my brother that the milk I was drinking came out of my nose. I remember smelling dinner cooking as soon as I walked into the house after a long day of snow sledding.

Sky's favorite is "red" or strawberry kiwi.
