aiden's first camping experience

Aiden went hiking with his Dad and his Uncle Caleb on his first real overnight camping trip. We hiked to the Buzzard's Roost overlook on Signal Knob outside of Front Royal, Virginia. The weather was mild and perfect. Aiden took great interest in collecting sticks and feeding them into the campfire late into the night. We cooked steaks and sweet potatoes over the fire, and Aiden ate an adult-sized portion. That night Aiden and Dad slept in a tent, Caleb slept in a hammock. Aiden took a while to settle down but then was very comfortable in a sleeping bag and slept through the night. The next morning we cooked eggs, which Aiden also devoured. We hiked to the Fort Valley overlook after taking down camp. On the way we found wild grape vines, with small but delicious grapes. Aiden declared that they were "much better than grapes from the store", and that "we should always get these wild grapes". We saw two gray lizards and tried to catch them on the hike back down, but they were too clever.

  2. Wow Aiden! I'm so impressed you did all that hiking and climbing. Camping is hard work, but it sounds like you guys had an awesome time. You are lucky to have such a cool dad and uncle. Can you take me with you sometime? Are girls allowed?
