birthday surprise

Adam and I were in St. John on Sky's birthday. We felt horrible about not being there on the actual date but it was the only time we could take time away from the office. I know Sky understands...she's just that kind of girl.

As a surprise, Grandma, Uncle Dullah, and Nakalie (that's how they pronouce Natalie's name) showed up with a Dora the Explorer birthday cake and presents for Sky. They also went out for a birthday dinner to Fuddruckers.

Uncle Dullah and Nat arrived with birthday balloons for them in the morning.

happy birthday sky!

Happy birthday, my little Sky. You were born two years ago at the exact time of this blog post at 8:25 am.

My favorite time of the day is the moment I see you when I get home from work. As soon as you hear the garage door, you come running to see me. I hear your running from whatever room you're in, gleefully saying "mommy's home, mommy's home!" I get the butterflies in my stomach when I hear your voice. You cut through the kitchen to meet me at the garage door. I wait for you on my knees as I drop my purse, my keys, my sunglasses, and kick off my shoes. Your hug feels sooo good. Your kiss is so gentle and so fleeting. I snuggle in your neck so that I can smell your hair while we hug.

You love to play in the van. Sometimes you'll climb right into your car seat and beg to go for a ride.

Your confidence blows me away. You are extraordinarily smart. You seem to already know where fit into the world and you like who you are.

You are a very good listener and I think that is why you're such a fast learner.

You're your Daddy's little angel and he loves you so much. When you say "I lub you, Daddy" your Daddy stops whatever he's doing, gets down on his knees to hug, and kiss you.

You are very curious about water but you know it can be dangerous so you are cautious around the pool. One thing is for sure, your really don't like water in your face. Hmmm. I gotta get you over that soon so you can join the swim team!

You prefer the hot tub to the pool. Sometimes you even tell me to get out of the pool because it's too cold. "Come to the little pool, Mommy. It's nice here."

expressions of true love

"I love you all the way to Spotty's house and back!" - Aiden

Spotty is the little spotted dog that lived two houses down from the house we rented in Kauai in April 2008.

"I love you to the sun, then all the way to the moon." - Aiden

"I love you all the way to the little house." - Aiden

The little house is our beach house in Va Beach...it took us 7 and half hours to come home from the beach yesterday...yeah, that's a long way.

"I love you SO MUCH." - Aiden

What did I do to deserve all this?

out to dinner with Grandma and Bobba (and their friends)

Aiden and Sky were invited to dinner by my parents and my parent's friends.

Adam and I were all alone for dinner. : )

On second thought, we were all alone for dinner. : (

Right in the middle of dinner Adam and I looked at each other almost simultaneously and remarked how strange the house felt without the kids. I don't know how we got along without them for ten years!

just one, then that's it

"Just two pieces, okay?"

Then Sky's famous line "just one, then that's it".

Here's Sky asking for just one more Reece's Pieces. She has quite the sweet tooth and she'll ask for just one more about ten times. Each time she says it she's as convincing as the last time she said it.

Sky savoring her next to last Reece's Pieces.

at the beach again!

Me loving my Sky.

Sky still doesn't like to have sand on her hands. She'll happily play for a while and then beg me to clean her hands.
