My Pets - a story by Nicolas (age 3)

I loved to encourage my children and now my grandchildren to make up their own stories.  All I do is ask questions.

For example I might ask: if you could have a pet what kind of pet would you have?  After they answer I ask other questions like…what color is he?  What’s his name?  What special tricks can he do?

Last Saturday I was babysitting my three-year-old Nicolas Rossi and this was his story.  What is not so unusual is that it parallels his world.  He has an older brother and sister.  Sometimes all is gentle and quiet and sometimes when people are teasing each other or everyone needs attention it’s crazyville.  So this is Nicolas’s story.

My Pets

I have a pet cat.  She is pink and I call her Pinky.  She has long hair that you have to brush after her bath or it gets knots.  She’s nice when she’s nice but sometimes she gets mean if you tease her.

I have a pet turtle.  His name is Colors.  He doesn’t have many colors; he’s all brown.  I think he wants to have colors but he doesn’t.  He’s slow and nice and eats lettuce in our garden.

I have a pet elephant named Billy.  Billy is big; he’s as big as our van.

All the pets live at my house.  I have a big house and a big yard for them to play in.  The pets like to be together except when they don’t.

Pinky was sitting on one of those long chairs near the pool.  Colors was swimming in the little pool that is warm.  Billy ran and jumped in the pool and made a big, big splash.  There was no more water in the pool.

Pinky got wet and she was mad.  She told Billy not to do that again.

Someone filled up the pool.  Maybe Daddy because Daddy would be mad if there was no water in the pool.

Pinky was in the long chair in the sun.  She was taking a nap.  Colors was in the little pool swimming.  Billy came and jumped in the pool for a joke.  Water went everywhere all over everything. Pinky got mad.  She took her claws and scratched Billy’s ear.  It got broken with blood coming.

Billy tried to hit her with his long nose but she was too fast.  She ran to the other ear and scratched his ear.  Billy was crying.  It hurt.

Daddy was mad.  He gave Billy and Pinky time out.  Colors was swimming in the little pool.  He was happy when it was quiet.  He still had water in his pool.

  2. Love Nick's "My Pets" story, I really enjoy reading! It's very cute and funny. I love Colors - the turtle the most, love his name and how he was happy in his little pool.

Great job Nick! Can not wait to read more stories from you.
