Dear Sky & Aiden,
Tonight I called you on the phone Sky to ask you for help. I went to my pantry and a little brown mouse, as fat as an Italian sausage with rich walnut fur, jumped over my wrist while I was reaching for a jar of spaghetti sauce. I screamed. He ran behind my bag of rice on the floor. I kicked the bag of rice and he scurried out of the pantry, around the corner and under the refrigerator. I screamed. I didn’t know what to do so I called you. When I told you this story you called Aiden to the phone. “Emergency. Nana Beth has a pet mouse in her house. Aiden help.”
In a flash you answered Aiden. “Nana Beth, I can help you. First of all you can’t scream. You’ll scare him and he’ll die.”
I agreed.
“Now get a net with a handle and move the refrigerator. Scoop him up in the net and walk far, far, far into the woods and let him go.”
The refrigerator is too heavy to move I told you.
“Okay, okay get some cheese and put it on the floor next to the refrigerator. When he comes out to get the cheese scoop him up.”
“Aiden, should I use yellow or white cheese?”
“I don’t know what your mouse likes so put down both.”
What about crackers?
“Yes, you can give him a cracker too but smash it up.”
Trying to get this all straight, I asked you what I should do next.
You sighed and repeated that I needed to scoop him up when he came to eat the cheese and take him far, far, far into the woods and let him go.
“But what if he follows me home again?”
“No he won’t,” you assured me. “He will be frightened from the net and then he’ll run to someone else’s house.”
“Thank you for all your help. But I have to ask you Aiden, how do you know all these things?”
There was a long pause on the phone, and then you said, “Because I’m Aiden Rossi.”
