the scary wild boar in the woods

Sky was so eager to show Adam the skinned wild boar we found hanging off the tree.

She found the wild boar to be a little scary, kind of interesting, and very exciting.

Here's the wild boar himself...we believe that some of the locals put this carcass up on the tree to deter tourists from wondering into this area of the beach.

  1. Sky with your good eyes, how the heck did you ever find that wild boar?

Oh my goodness, that must have been pretty scary.

Looks like you have your princess hairband with you and that would give you magical powers for protection. Well, the hairband and your Daddy too, he'd certainly protect you.

I can't wait to hear all about your Hawaiian adventures. It was an amazing trip I bet.

  2. You'll know the spot when I describe it to you. It's that beach that has a river flowing into it where we had a little picnic two years ago. There is a stretch of woods that runs parallel to the beach with the big treehouse. We were walking to the tree house when we saw this gutted wild boar. It STUNK like crazy and was still dripping fluids. Aiden almost walked under but Sky stopped him in his tracks, "No, Aiden! don't walk under it. It's going to drip blood on you!" At first Aiden thought he was being bossed around but then I explained to him that Sky loves him so much that she wouldn't want some stinky old blood to drip on him and as soon as he got that he was smiling from ear to ear and wanting to "ga ga hug her". Later that day he kept reminding me that Sky loves him so much that she didn't want stinky blood on her big brother. I'm telling you it's a love fest at our house.

By the way, I was there that day alone with the kids. Adam and Caleb were on the trail. When I saw more slaughter boars, and a few beatup old pickup trucks, and heard about ten dogs barking I figured it was time to forget the tree house and head back to the car. A few days later we went back there with Adam...of course Aiden and Sky had to show Daddy the "dead wild boar". Adam too was a little weirded out by the scene but we forged ahead to see the treehouse. We figured some locals were camping out there and were trying to scare off the tourist by hanging boar's carcass from tree...with the heads still on!

  3. I totally remembered this beach with the first picture of Adam and Sky and recognized Poipu beach too. It's funny that you think all beaches would be the same but in Kauai all beaches have their own distinctive brands.

It is a love fest at your house. What a warm and comforting thing to have children love each other and parents love each other, it compounds and duplicates and it's love crazy. Wouldn't have it any other way, would you?
